Literature Text

As the smallest pup, you would think that he would have been left out in the cold. This is not one of those stories. He was the fastest growing of the litter but when he was only a few weeks old, some of his siblings started to get sick. One by one they died leaving Eclipse all alone, an only pup. As he grew older, Eclipse became stronger and stronger.  His parents wanted him to stay and take over as alpha when they passed on but Eclipse did not want his parents’ pack, the lower males were very abusive of the females. His father was always able to deal with them but seeing another wolf being treated like that was a huge disrespect to the pack and its members. Most times, the females who have been abused would be sheltered in the alpha den. It was the safest place for them as no male would enter there unless given permission. Eclipse wanted a fresh start. He did not want any of the abuse in his new pack. With these ideas he bid farewell to his parents and started out on his own. As he walked through the woods, he smelled a fresh kill. Running towards it, he found himself locked in a cage. Eclipse tried to get out but to no avail. He decided that it was just a waste of his energy to fight the cage. Waiting for his fate, a few humans came and found him. They were very cautious around Eclipse, but he just wanted out. He was not going to harm the humans, he just wanted out of the cage. He felt a pinch of pain in his ruff and then, without warning, he blacked out.

Eclipse woke up in another cage. This one was much larger than the other one but still enclosed. He still felt the pain of the thing that went into his ruff but it had faded mostly. He was kept in the cage. He was given things to play with, which he enjoyed. He was fed every day no longer having to work hard for every calorie. One day the humans came into his cage. Eclipse wondered why they had come into his cage. They had given him everything through the bars. Soon he felt the same pain in his ruff that he had before. This time Eclipse didn’t black out. As the days went on, the humans kept feeding him and stood outside his cage with what looked like a stick and a thin rock. The stick was softly scratching the rock very quickly but in a calculated manner. The humans started to speak to him and he started to understand. They told him that he was the first of his kind among other things. Eclipse, being the smart wolf that he was, started to give them a code. By biting on the rope toy he answered “yes” and biting on the ball ment “no” which the humans took delight in using. After many questions, Eclipse sensed a change in his body. His hind legs grew longer along with his torso. He stood on his hind legs, which felt weird because he had been on four his entire life, and the humans were frightened. He could smell the fear and a little urine, too. He was frightened too, just a little but he liked at his front paws that were now like the humans’ but with pads. His vision started to change as well. Things changed, but not in size or shape. It was hard to tell but Eclipse thought that it might be the “color” that the humans were talking about. Eclipse knew that he would have to get out of there. He waited for night to come, which felt like forever. The humans did tests on him. Nothing major, but he did have some of his blood taken. As the day wore on, Eclipse found that he could switch from his two legged form to his original one. Night finally came and, while all of the humans were asleep, he broke out. Running for his life, Eclipse severely cut himself on the sharp fence around where he was taken to. It was like there were blades on the fence. Getting into the woods, he noticed that the deep cuts that he had received were already healed. Finding that he was no longer a normal wolf like he had once been, Eclipse tried to find somewhere to start over. Wandering through the woods, he stumbled upon a human den. It wasn’t very large but it would suffice. As he walked closer, he felt another change. This time his fur disappeared, his muzzle scrunched painfully into his head, his claws retracted into his paws along with his pads. His tail was painfully jammed into his spine. He passed out from the pain.

Eclipse woke up in the human den. It was cozy and reminded him a little of his birthden. He felt odd like he was being touched everywhere at once. Eclipse looked down to see a colored shirt with dark and light intersecting lines on it. He noticed that he was still in his hairless form, well except for a little on his head. A man came into the room and started talking. He told Eclipse that he had found him lying in the field outside. Eclipse started to communicate with the man. It came out of his mouth which felt odd that it wasn’t his usual growls and barks. The man stopped him and said that he knew what Eclipse was and explained that he was the same. He taught Eclipse to fight and shift at will. He became like new. Eclipse, after being educated to the best of the man’s ability, was set loose to go find a new home. Finding a pack of others with his same condition, he felt right at home like he had always wanted to be but this was not the end, oh no, not by a long shot.
This is the story of Eclipse, my OC. I plan to add more to it soon but I have papers to write.
